Tuesday July 18

After a full night of sleep, my alarm woke me up to start getting ready at 7:30am, I got ready in 10 min. then waited another 40 for Mia to get ready so we could go to breakfast, again at EuroPan. Then we all waited in the lobby ’till ’round 9:30am for the bus. And off we were to a country club to swim for the afternoon.

On the way there, we went through a tunnel, and I tried to hold my breath ’til we got out. I didn’t last. When we got out of the tunnel I found out the tunnel went all the way under the Hudson River.

We got to the pool around 10am and right away I jumped in the pool, I was the first one in. I swam for about 2 hours in the deep end, which was 8 to 10 feet deep, with two diving boards.

DSC01574

It was super sunny so when we were called in for lunch I grabbed some food and stayed in the shade talking to some new friends for about an hour.

Then I was back in the pool ’til we had to go, around 3ish in the afternoon.

Back at the hotel we had free time. I went up to the suite and tried to Skype home, but it didn’t work on my computer. I tried to get it to work but it still was wonky when we had to leave for dinner at Carmine’s, an Italian restaurant.

DSC01607

(The bathrooms at Carmine’s had mouthwash in soap dispensers and those little ketchup holder container things that you find in McDonald’s and Wendy’s to put the mouthwash in.)

Then we went to go see the Lion King, which happened to be right across the street.

We walked into the theater, and it was HUGE!! We went to find our seats, which, ’cause of who we were, the Sunshine Kids, we got good seats, we weren’t right up close like some of us kids would have liked, but we were close enough that we could still see the actor’s expressions.

The play was A·MA·ZING(said slowly and emphatically)!!!!!!!! The stage moved up and down and tilted and turned and the costumes were SO cool, and it was just like the animated version, just with people. My favorite of the main characters was Rafiki (though in the animated version it was a guy, and in the Musical that I went to it was a girl), and out of all the other animals were the cheetah, and the giraffes. I liked the giraffes because they stood on stilts and leaned on stilts, so they actually were tall, and I liked the cheetah because it had the best costume, the actor wore a head thingy that moved the cheetah head, and her legs were the cheetah’s back legs, and she stood so that it actually looked like how a cheetah stood and the actress held poles that moved the front legs of the cheetah and if she leaned back the cheetah would, like, stand on her hind legs (I don’t know how else to say that last one.).

After the play was over, we stayed in our chairs until everyone else was gone, then went up to the front and got a meet and greet with the cast. They said to ask them anything, so one of the kids from our Vancouver group asked, “What was the weirdest question you’ve ever gotten asked?” And the actress that played the cheetah answered that she once got asked what her favorite type of pasta was.

Then we got a tour of backstage, and the changing rooms, and we got to see where they kept all the costumes when they weren’t using them (most of them were kept up above everything, and out of the way).

And then we all got together and got group photos of us Sunshine Kids and the actors that were still there.

After everything was finished we headed back to the hotel and were told to go straight to our rooms and that we should get ready to go to sleep. I was so tired that I basically put on my pjs, brushed my teeth and got in bed and I don’t even remember laying down before I fell asleep.

And I still had water in my ear.

Ambleside

Last Tuesday we woke up and it was just another day.

This summer has been a bit of a bummer. It has not gone exactly how we had planned or expected and while nothing terrible has happened, it’s not been as relaxing as I’d hoped!

First Beach Experience?

Around 9:30am, I decided that if the kids and I could get the house cleaned and packed and ready to go by 11:30am – that we’d head out to the beach. At this point, I still wasn’t sure which beach I would head to as they are all about an hour away from us, but I was determined that we were not going to just sit at home and do nothing for one more day.

The kids were pretty excited and we managed to get everything ready and done just after 11:30am and so off we went.

Arrival

As I pulled out of the driveway, I was still unsure about where we should go…I was contemplating 3 different beaches…White Rock, Spanish Banks and Ambleside.

In the end, Ambleside in West Vancouver won out mostly because I could park and be on the sand in about 20 steps and with 5 kids in tow and all our gear – the close proximity to the beach, the parking spot and the bathroom were key factors in my decision.

Toes

Traffic was NON-EXISTANT and we made it there in just under and hour. The weather was not AMAZING, but neither did it suck. It was one of those days, where it was cloudy, but there was still the possibility of getting a burn if you didn’t take the right precautions.

As soon as we hit the sand, the boys were gone, headed straight for the water. Jeremy stopped long enough to point out a good spot that he figured I should put the blankets down on and I agreed, it was a pretty good spot.

In the Water

We laid the blankets out and put the baby on them and he instantly crawled the edge of the blanket and picked up handfuls of sand and hucked them ALL OVER THE BLANKETS! At that point, I moved him over into the middle of one of the blankets and then took possession of that blanket. The girls shook all the sand off the other blanket and ATTEMPTED to keep it sand-free…….between the baby and the 3 year, it was a losing battle. I didn’t even try to stop him from loading up my blanket and to be honest, I just didn’t care.

The kids played and played and played and played.

Headed to the Water

The weather was perfect….warm enough that you could just wear a tank top, but cool and cloudy enough to keep just about everyone else from coming to the beach.

The kids tried to go in the water and the girls went in past their waists…..crazy kids. Josiah went in but decided that he didn’t want to go in, but then fell in and so that was that.

He came up and got a towel from me but from that point on, he was a sandy mess….it was…..AWESOME! sort of….

The kids were playing so nicely together and except for the occasional squabble between Jeremy and Josiah, it was the best couple of hours that we’ve had in a while.

Working Together

I was able to just sit and then every once in a while retrieve Judah and bring him back to the blanket….and then he’d start crawling back towards the water again stopping every now and then to pick up some random object and put it in his mouth.

The kids splashed in the water, made a sand wall, dug a hole, buried Jeremy, and played on the playground. We ate lunch and had snacks and went to the bathroom and the only mildly upsetting time was when we lost Josiah for about 90 seconds. He had come back with me (from the bathroom) and was right behind me. I guess, when we walked over the cement wall and onto the beach, he stayed on the wall and walked back along it towards the bathroom. I made it back to the blanket (which was about 10 feet away) and sat down. Talk to the girls about how the baby was when I was gone, turned around and Siah was gone…..Xani and I ran around like chickens with our heads cut off and fortunately, the lady next to us spotted him on the wall back by the bathrooms…..I had a short little chat with him and after that, he stayed pretty close.

In the Hole

The biggest downside to the day was when Jeremy decided to not feel well about an hour before we had planned to come home. He was complaining of a headache and an upset tummy and stopped playing, wrapped his head in a towel and lay down on the blanket. Then he wanted to go and sit in the van and was moaning loudly about needing to barf.

Downtime

After that, We packed up pretty quickly and headed home….unfortunately, the traffic was just starting and we had about an hour and a half drive from West Vancouver back to Langley. FORTUNATELY, Jeremy slept the whole way home and that seemed to help a little. He never did end up barfing (Thank God!) and by the next day he was 100%, so who knows what his issue was????

Traffic Going Home

It was an awesome day and we will definitely be headed back there before the summer is over.

On a New York Monday….

We woke up at 7:30am and went next door to EuroPan for breakfast. I didn’t sleep too good the night before. My foot felt okay, but still hurt from all of the walking and standing that I had to do at the airport the day before.

This is me trying to get a photo while we were driving past….and that’s why it’s only half a picture

We met in the lobby of the hotel around 8 o’clock, piled onto the bus and headed out to the Empire State Building.

We got our own buses for everywhere we went. The Empire State Building has 102 floors total. We just went up the 86th Floor Observatory.

We looked around the Observatory and then went back inside and went down to the 80th floor where the gift shop is. I picked up some souvenirs there for my family. Then we went to the Skyride which is basically a moving chair and a movie but makes you think you are looking out of a helicopter. You see all the different tourist attractions around New York. They still include the Twin Towers because they were a part of New York and they don’t want them to be forgotten.

Taken from the 86th floor Observatory

We went back to the main floor, piled back on the bus and went to Mickey’s Mantle which is a restaurant owned by a guy who likes baseball. There we were fed what I like to think of as a family style buffet, where they brought a bunch of food out in large quantities.

After that we were gonna go for a carriage ride, but it ended up getting too hot for the horses. So instead we went back to the hotel (our rooms were on either of two floors, 37 and 39, and there was a suite on floor 42 that was kinda like a common room area where there were TVs and board games and cards and couches and we could use our computers I later found out.) At first I went to my room and read while I iced me ankle, but then I got bored and went to the suite, where I played cheat, and won, then Scrabble, and won by like at least double everyone else. Then we had to clean up fast and head back to the lobby to go to a Chinese restaurant that I din’t catch the name of.

An interesting thing I saw when I was there was; there are McDonald’s EVERYWHERE!!! Like one on every block.

There were some pretty interesting signs in New York!

At the Chinese place we had another family style buffet type meal, then walked a block or two down the street to the Blue Man Group.

It was so AMAZING!!!

OK, so a few years ago in Abbotsford, in Elementary school, there was a group of guys that came to our school, they had all these tubes and bicycle wheels and tons of stuff that you’d find in a junk yard. And they’d found a way to use these things to make music. The Blue Man Group was like that only like 100 times better, and they found a way to add colour and to make it look kind of techno and add, like, a mime-ness to it, the Blue Men didn’t talk or make noise themselves, they used the tubes and pipes and things. They got the audience to go up, and they gave out paintings that they made right then, and near the end they had rolls of toilet paper attached to the roof and they got the audience to throw it foreword so it looked like really really long streamers while they used strobe lights, it looked SO SO SO COOL!!!!!

When the show was over we got pictures with the Blue Men, and I bought a t-shirt and a Blue Man CD to take home.

Then we went back to the hotel where we had to go straight to our rooms, it was like, 11pm, and get ready for bed. Me and my roommate, Mia, watched some TV, and ended up actually going to sleep around 1/4 to 1, and that was my first day at New York.

Lynn Headwaters

There are adventures that we’ve had that I don’t want to forget about and so in between the posts about New York, I’ll be sharing some of our recent adventures…..if I don’t, then I’ll get too far behind and when that happens, then I don’t even want to post about them…but the New York posts are coming…I promise!!!!

Last Saturday, before we headed out to the airport to pick up Geli…..Jon and the boys and I headed into North Vancouver for an adventure.

We had thought about going to Lynn Canyon, but I didn’t think we’d be able to navigate the trails with the stroller and I didn’t feel like carrying 30lbs of Judah around and so we went to where there were trails…

Just before we hit the trails, I grabbed Jeremy in for a quick squish, this way there is at least some photographic evidence that I am in fact on this particular adventure.

IMG_2202

This is an “in motion” photo…..these little boys are ALWAYS MOVING! We had to park in the first overflow parking lot as the parking lot was full…..so we hiked up the road a little till we got to the headwater trails…

<IMG_2205

We stopped and had a bathroom break before we headed out because a certain little boy has a bladder the size of a…….well, I was going to say pea, but somehow that just doesn’t sound proper and so lets ust say that he ALWAYS has to go and just leave it at that…

IMG_2209

While we waited for the big boys to finish up the paperwork, Siah was showing me how he was gonna go all ninja on any bears that he saw….

IMG_2212

We crossed the little bridge and the boys were so excited, Jon had to hold them back from flinging themselves into the rushing water below….okay, well not quite, but we both felt a little stressed at how excited they were and how big those gaps were in the “fence”…

IMG_2213

We walked up the path and turned right…..we really had no plan and we were mostly killing time while letting the boys run “wild” out in the bushes where they really can’t “wreck” anything…..and so we took our time and climbed on top of the rocks and took pictures of them doing anything and everything….

IMG_2217

We walked down the path a bit more and came to this cement tube and before we could say or do anything, Josiah cimbed feet first into and slide right through and out the other end….it’s not a big tube but he fit – thankfully – and didn’t get stuck!!!! He was a little dirtier than we had planned and we still had to go and get Geli….so we told him…no more exploring like that…..if you look very carefully, you can see his little face peering up from the bottom of the tube.

IMG_2223

Judah wasn’t really sure why he had to stay in the buggy. He really , Really, REALLY (with a lot of screechiness and general upsetedness) let us know that he really wanted to get down and play in the dirt too!

IMG_2224

Jeremy showing us that he is the “king of the world”….

IMG_2226

I really, love BC…..I love the trees and the woods and……well, it’s JUST! SO! BEAUTIFUL!

IMG_2229

We did let Judah get out while the older boys were “exploring” in the trees. He really liked the rocks. He’s in a bit of a throwing stage right now…it’s fun…sometimes!

IMG_2232

When it was time to move on, this was about how happy Judah was that he had to get back into the buggy….and so we ended up carrying him anyway. So silly!

IMG_2239

I don’t know why exactly, but I LOVE this next photo.

IMG_2242

I think this tree looks like a Shrek House and aren’t my boys cute!

After this, my phone died and I didn’t get any more photos, BUT….basically, we turned around and headed back to the van because it was time head into Vancouver to go to the airport to pick up Geli….

The boys were asking to go back even before we left and so I’m hoping we’ll have another opportunity to get back into Lynn Valley before the summer is over!

New York – Day 1

Angelica had to get up SUPER EARLY on Sunday morning because she had to BE at the airport at 5:30am. This meant that she needed to leave our house around 4:30am….which means that she had to wake up even earlier.

Jon and Geli managed to get off for the airport on time and they met up with the rest of her group.

After a hug and a kiss, she was off…

They landed in New York on Sunday evening…..

Airports always have neat art or sculptures in them don’t they?

Angelica came home telling us about the amazing vending machines that she saw and it seemed quite fantastical until she showed us this photo of a vending machine full of ipods and cameras and games and accessories…..is that not just insane!

Of course you’ve got to take a photo of the New York Taxi’s…..

They got into their hotel and got settled and after a LONG day of traveling they settled down for the night because the next day would start a WHIRLWIND of activities that would tire any of us….

The view of the sunset from Geli’s Hotel Room.

We’ve decided to break each day up into it’s own adventure and story and so come and check back in to hear more about Geli’s adventure…..

New York Adventures

We finally heard from Angelica.

After dropping her off at 5:30am on Sunday morning, we didn’t hear from her again until Tuesday afternoon. That’s a looooong time to be away from someone that you’ve worried over and “mother hen’d” for over a year.

And……she was fine. Obviously!

Jon and I…..not so much!

I mean, we are okay and in all reality, too busy to be worrying 24/7 but there are definitely the odd moments that get ya.

She called on Tuesday afternoon just to let us know that everything was okay and that she was having SO MUCH FUN. I asked the usual “How are you doing? How are you feeling? Everything okay?” questions and then reminded her to take a million pictures and she assured me she was and then we hung up.

It was just a quick short conversation and so we were DELIGHTED when she e-mailed us on Wednesday. It wasn’t a long e-mail, but enough to connect AND THEN…..

Wednesday afternoon she emailed a HUGE LONG RAMBLING e-mail. It was wonderful.

So far, they have seen or done…..
– Mme. Tussaudes (the wax museum)
– Empire State Building
– The Blue Man Group
– Lion King (the musical) and got to go back stage
– Battery Park
– Statue of LIberty
– a Private Pool Party

And they still have today and tomorrow.

She mentioned that it is SO HOT! She wore her hoody one day and said that it feels like you are being smothered with a heavy blanket. She is also LOVING the restaurants that the are eating at, but she also mentioned that she is missing her fruits and veggies….apparently you can eat too much junk food!

I’m so glad that she has had this opportunity. It is such a blessing. I can’t wait to see all her pictures and to hear all about her many adventures.

Happy Anniversary… sort of…

On June 16th, 2010, we received a call from our family Doctor that started the most difficult year our family has ever had to deal with. We spent that night in the Emergency Room at BC Children’s Hospital getting asked a million question and getting poked and prodded and at about 1:00am on June 17th an Oncology Resident came into our room and stated that initial blood screen results indicated that Angelica was fighting Leukemia. We were admitted to the hospital, tried to get a few hours of sleep and…

On June 17th, 2010, after a bone marrow biopsy, the diagnosis was confirmed as Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia – B Cell (with a few other specific gene type annotations). This became Day 0 and a whirlwind of activity began that changed the course of our lives.

June 17, 2010
June 17, 2010

Tomorrow is June 17th, 2011. One year since all this began and Angelica is still in active treatment. Her counts are very low, so we have an appointment tomorrow to get some blood transfusions. It will take all day in at BC Children’s, and we would like to celebrate.

We are not looking to celebrate a year of leukemia treatment… that is just morbid. We do want to celebrate a year of life, a year of triumph and a year of community coming together. As her counts are so low, and she is not really allowed to be around groups of people, we can’t go and throw a big BBQ in the back yard, but we can celebrate in other ways. I would like to ask you to send in a comment at the bottom of this post or e-mail (to: patti@xangelle.com) and share “something” with Angelica. You may have a moment in this journey that really sticks out to you. You may have a way that this journey has impacted your life. You may just be able to say, “I am still standing with you”. But please take a moment to share something. I would like to be able to share your encouraging thoughts and comments with her all during the day tomorrow at the hospital.

Also, please have a look at the shirts that Angelica is selling (button on the right) and buy one or pass the link along to friends and family. And if you are not interested in using the paypal shopping cart, or wish to pay in cash, please just contact us and we will set it up. We will be placing our first order with the shirt printer on Monday.

No Clue What We Were Up Against

Sometimes it’s easy to post and sometimes it’s really difficult.

I’ve been finding it quite difficult recently. There are things I want to say, thoughts that I want to share and yet when I go to unravel the mess inside my brain….it’s more difficult than I thought it would be.

DSC_0046

Xandra just got back from 3 days away at Camp Jubilee as part of her Grade Seven Grad Trip.

She was so excited to go and while I was thrilled for her, there was a part of me that felt unsettled and uneasy.

She spent about 3 days before the trip packing and preparing and it reminded me so much of last year when we were doing the exact same thing for Geli.

The difference was that Angelica was not feeling one hundred percent.

Obviously, there is a good reason for that now, but back then, we didn’t know. We had no clue what we were up against. I was so pregnant and so looking forward to having Judah. Geli’s complaints of feeling tired were easily explained away by the fact that she was a teenager, and the rash that she had on her legs was probably from some reaction to soap or most likely a virus.

We sent her off to the Camp and when she got home…she was obviously quite ill. Sick enough (and I was pregnant enough) that a trip to the Dr. was very important. I am so thankful that we didn’t wait longer. I’m not one to take my kids to the Dr for every cough or sore throat and there is a good chance that were I not going to have a baby any day and the fact that if it might be Strep Throat….I didn’t want to deal with a highly contagious illness with a newborn in the house…..that we would have waited even longer to take her in. I don’t even let myself think about how much worse she would have/could have gotten had we not gone in to see our family Dr and gotten blood work.

We had no clue what we were up against.

Xandra made it off to the camping trip and I have spent the last few days alternating between worrying and telling myself not to worry. Xandra is well. Xandra is healthy. Xandra is amazing! Yes, this has been a tough year on her (as it’s been on all of us) but we are making our way through this….through the good times and the bad times. We will survive. We will overcome this.

She came home today and we drove to the school to pick her up. As we drove up to the front of the school, every muscle in my body was tense and I kept looking…searching for some sign that she might not be feeling well. I waited until she opened the van door, praying that I wouldn’t hear the scratchy voice of a cough or the nasal voice of a stuffed nose……and at the same time, I’d already prepped myself that she’d been in close contact with a whole bunch of other kids, who had ingested a ton of crap food with very little sleep…..an illness would not be out of the ordinary.

Her eyes looked bright and cheerful. Her skin was sun kissed and bight. She had a skip in her step and a song in her voice as she greeted us and the breath that I’d been holding so very tight let out…….a little.

It’s a hard thing to deal with; having your child be diagnosed with a life threatening illness and then trying to carry on with life. It s not an easy thing and too many times I’ve had nightmares of something horrible happening my other children. Too many times I’ve worried or stressed about things that have never come to pass.

DSC_0083

So much of this journey is “too much”…..I know that I have a lot to “heal” from. There are times where I’ve felt traumatized by what has happened and yet I carry on. I must! But the effects of what we’ve been though have left their mark and I’m not yet in a position of strength.

I will be. Every day, I grow stronger and some days I feel like I’ve healed….and then something like these past few days happens and I see that I’m not quite there yet.

It will come. I believe. It must!

Which is your favorite?

On Tuesday, I briefly mentioned that we had Family Photos done a few weeks ago and that you could go and see a few of them if you went over to the Red Handed Photography Blog.

Tania had posted a bunch of pictures of the kids. On Wednesday, she posted a few of Jon and I together. And today she posted a bunch of our entire family.

I am SO thrilled with these photos. I love to be able to capture my family in pictures. I love to be able to catch moments or scenes from the different points in our lives. Some of those times are amazing and some are a bit tougher, but all those pictures go together to tell a story! Our Story!

As many pictures as I am able to take of the kids, or even of Jon….I am never able to get pictures of Jon and I together and none of our entire family. For Cara to volunteer her winning photo package to us as a family and for Tania to take the photos……I am so SO blessed.

This is such a gift. SUCH A HUGE GIFT to us. I am so thrilled to have photo’s from this time in our lives.

To see pictures of the kids, of Jon and I, and of our family all together, please go and visit Tania’s website.

Red Handed Photography

And if you are thinking about getting pictures taken, I would strongly encourage you to contact Tania. She is fantastic. The shoot was so easy and comfortable. Her ability to deal with all 7 of us and to not get stressed or upset, was amazing. She made this entire process so fabulous!

I’d love it if you would check them out and let me know which one(s) are your favorite?

I love this goofy shot of the kids……

Christmas Eve

Last year, we had a Christmas Eve Fondue with Jon’s parents and my kids LOVED it.

In fact, this year in November Jeremy started asking about that thing that we do every year….with the sticks and the cheese and the chocolate and the dipping. I finally figured out that he was talking about our Christmas Eve Fondue only…..we had only ever done it with the kids ONCE.

But I would LOVE to start a tradition of a Christmas Eve Fondue.

This year we were unsure how the whole celebrating Christmas with the families was going to look because we had Angelica to think about and her blood counts to take into consideration. Fortunately, everyone on both sides of our family was healthy and there was no issue about that. We did stay at or close to home though and it was only immediate family.

Jon’s parents came to celebrate Christmas Eve with us and it was such a great evening. We were able to have dinner and open presents and there was nothing terribly stressful or horribly rushed about the evening. The biggest challenge was making a dairy-free, egg-free, gluten-free fondue……….that tasted DELICIOUS. See, if I had used regular bread then when it was dipped into the cheese, it could have pieces that fell off and I could have eaten then and then bad things would have happened…and so it was necessary to make the entire fondue safe for everyone.

Delicious

But…a gluten-free, dairy-free fondue can be done and it can taste so SO YUMMY!

The first thing that I did was to call my friend who is the manager of a Cheese and Bake Shop in White Rock and ask for her suggestions for some cheese that I could use in a fondue that wasn’t from cow’s milk. She suggested I use a mellow Goat Gouda and a crisp tasting Sheep Cheese.

This is the same friend who shaved her head raising money to support our family. She is honestly the most amazing person and such a great, great friend. We’ve known each other our whole lives and I love her like a sister. In fact, when we went by the store to pick up the cheese, we had someone ask if we were sisters. If you saw pictures of her, you’d know that was a great compliment. She has the most gorgeous HUGE blue eyes, the highest cheekbones and the greatest, most amazing smile. She is one of those people who are beautiful, both inside and out.

Anyway, she suggested that we try these two cheeses and the end result was AMAZING! It was a fabulous non-cow dairy cheese fondue and EVERYONE loved it and it was the perfect blend of cheese and had absolutely NONE of that nasty “goaty” taste.

If you are needing some cheese or fresh bread or any treats to go with cheese or fresh bread, I would totally suggest you check them out. Amazing products, Amazing staff and the management is…….AMAZING!!!!

The Roadhouse Bake Shoppe on King George in White Rock, BC

Back to Christmas Eve….the Cheese fondue was so SO Yummy! We had a bit of trouble with the oil fondue not being hot enough and we had even started it heating about an hour earlier, but while we were waiting for it get a bit hotter, everyone was downing the cheese fondue. I had bought some gluten and dairy free bagels and had cut them up into hunks. It was perfect for dipping. I had blanched a bunch of veggies and the kids were plowing through them too. I had cut up some moose meat and some chicken and also had some tempura sauce on hand but that stupid oil just wouldn’t get hot enough.

Cheese

Cheese

We had eaten more than half of the cheese and Jon was turning the burner off so it wouldn’t burn to the bottom of the dish and CRACK….the dish broke….and that was the end of our cheese fondue.

Nana & Papa

It wasn’t exactly funny at the time….more annoying than amusing. The oil still wasn’t boiling and so I just took the meat to the kitchen and cooked in a pan and then we finished off our dinner.

It was just nice to be able to “be together”….that’s one of the important things about Christmas to me….having time to spend with family.

We cleared off the table and got to the “most important part of the meal” – according to Jeremy – the Chocolate Fondue.

There is a (dairy-free) Lindt Dark Chocolate that when mixed with a little soy creamer, makes the most delicious dairy free chocolate fondue. I have taken it to many places and no one ever knows or guesses that it’s not just a normal chocolate fondue.

Two Thumbs Up

Josiah gives it two thumbs up. We had TONS of fruit and also dipped some cookies into it. We ate until there was no more chocolate and everyone was full.

We cleared the table and started opening presents.

There were the “traditional” Christmas Pyjamas from Momma and Daddy.

Posing

For whatever reason, Jeremy needed to model his…both the front and the back…..and we HAD to take a picture…what a funny kid.

Modeling the back

The evening ran WAY PAST the kids “normal” bedtime and Judah was a bit cranky which is never very fun.

Tired and Grouchy

But, He seemed to get a second wind and cruised on for at least another hour.

Flying

It was a great night and we enjoyed ourselves so much. After the kids went to sleep, e tidied up the house, put the presents under the tree and just after 1 am, just as we were getting ready to head to bed – the baby woke up…..and I cried. Okay, i didn’t, but I could have….and he did just nurse and go back to sleep so it wasn’t that bad.

In my mind though, Christmas Eve was a great night. Lack of sleep, food mess-ups and all…..

Do you have any favorite Christmas Eve traditions?
