Trespasser Lake

My boys slept over at my sister’s house last night and I ran over there this morning to pick them up.

Trespasser Lake

The boys were so disappointed when I showed up because they desperately wanted to go to “the lake”…..so I said that we could go and check it out.

Trespasser Lake

We took the boys and the dogs and headed over. It’s just a short walk from my sister’s place; and both the boys and the dogs loved the wide open spaces to free-range on. The boys crossed over the lake and spent some time camped out on the island.

Trespasser Lake

The boys played in the water and dug in the clay…….

Trespasser Lake

…..they scaled mountains……(I have lots of pics of Nico ’cause he stuck the closest to us and he’s just SO. DANG. CUTE.)

Trespasser Lake

We packed up and headed back before the boys got too tired and cranky. Aunty Debbie and Siah did a little grasshopper hunting on the way back.

Trespasser Lake

All in all, Trespasser Lake is a pretty cool place and I’m glad the boys wanted to check it out.

Ponder Park Adventure

Yesterday morning, Jon and Geli had to be at BC Children’s Hospital at 8am…..this meant they had to leave our house at 6:30am……YUCK!!

We (Myself, Xandra, Jeremy, Siah and Judah) packed up and headed out to my sister’s house. They’ve just bought an acreage and it’s an unbelievably gorgeous piece of property and when they are done remodeling…it’s going to be an even more amazing home!

We decided to walk the pipeline in the park close to their house and if all went well, we should end up at a little creek where the kids could puddle around for a little bit.

Neither Debbie nor I had ever done this exact “walk” and yet we decided to take 5 children and one double runner stroller…..I’m not exactly certain what we were thinking and yet off we went.

We reached the park and then headed down the path. There were SO MANY berries and the kids were in heaven picking and eating…the huckleberries and salmon berries were delicious. We reached a fork in the road and veered to the right and headed into the tall grass. After about 2 minutes, we reached the pipeline.

By this point we were 4×4’ing with the buggy and I was just glad that it was a jogging stroller because there was not way that a regular stroller would have handled the grass or the uneven ground. As we looked ahead, we saw a hill sloping downward….

IMG_2021

That hill sloping away from me…..that the kids are running down…..that was just the small hill….it got worse, much worse!

There was a second much steeper hill, that I never ended up getting a picture of, because it required both Debbie and myself to hold to buggy. At one point, I looked up the hil behind us and commented on the whole “if we are going down we are gonna have to go back up and how bad that was gonna suck” business! But, we could see the creek and we were so close and so we carried on.

Of COURSE we wore appropriate foot wear……

IMG_2024

Here we are at the bottom of the hill. The boys laughed and giggled the whole way down the hill….

IMG_2026

Jeremy was the first one to get in the creek and everyone else followed quickly after. The water was FREEZING!!!!! Like, actual pain, hurt your feet freezing, but the little babies, didn’t seem to care…they just wanted to get into the water and to play with the mud…

IMG_2028

This little one was more interested in balancing on the rocks and trees than actually getting into the water…..at one point he fell and scratched his leg and then showed me the scratch and told me that the fish had bitten him….it was pretty cute.

IMG_2029

Diesel (the dog) was so funny. She kept sticking her head completely under the water and picking up rocks that were bigger than grapefruits and pulling them out of the water….at one point Jack decided to throw her a stick…

IMG_2042

So of course he had to pick up the largest stick the he could find…..

IMG_2043

He is just SO CUTE, isn’t he?

IMG_2046

The littlest boys were in HEAVEN playing in the mud…..

IMG_2049

Judah would FLIP OUT anytime I tried to remove him from the mud. This is the little boy who will settle instantly if you take him outside or put him in a bath….this combines the best of both….outside and in the water….

IMG_2056

The creek is in the bottom of a…….valley? There are two steep grassy hills on either side of the creek. This is the hill of the other side of the creek – the side we did not walk up or down…purdy, ain’t it?

IMG_2060

Here is shot of the creek……this is such a pretty, pretty area.

IMG_2061

We stopped playing long enough to have quick snack break….those dairy-free, gluten-free oreo type cookies are sure delicious and the extra sand and mud makes them even more delicious….

IMG_2070

Then we packed everything up and took a look up the hill….here is a god shot of it….can you see Josiah in the bottom left corner….yah, it was pretty huge. And after this hill……there is a second one to climb…

IMG_2074

We started out with both Debbie and I pushing the buggy together and that worked for a bit, but then it got difficult and Judah started screaming and the wheels kept turning around and wouldn’t lock still and I got tired and Debbie ended up wrapping the dog leash around the front bar on the buggy and pulling while I pushed….We had many rest breaks and at the top of that hill that I showed you….Josiah sat down and refused to go any further.

IMG_2076

On the trip up the first hill, he had been hanging off my back pockets and the buggy and whatever else he could find to get some help to get up the big hill and he was officially POOPED! I didn’t blame him and yet we were already pushing 50 pounds of baby up the hill added on top of the buggy and I didn’t need to carry another 40 pounds of Siah on top of that.

Aunty Debbie lured him up the second hill with promises of a piggy back ride once we reached the top….and HE MADE IT.

We finally made it back to Debbie’s house and had some lunch and then packed everyone up to head home.

On the way home, my little man fell asleep. He climbed the hill, but the hill won!

IMG_2078

I tried for about 5 minutes to get him to wake up and that was not happening. He was SO tired! And so I let him sleep.

It was a great adventure but I don’t think we’ll be taking the buggy back down to the creek any time soon…or ya know…like EVER!

You can see more pictures from our great adventure here!

Cousins (picture heavy)

My sister dropped Jack off a our house the other day. He’s such a sweet little boy with such a cute little disposition. He’s so darling.

DSC_0003

Of course I got out my camera, because he just “needed” to have some pictures taken. Look at this cute little face…..

DSC_0005

Then I sat the two cousins together to try and get a picture of them…but Jack wasn’t having any of it. He super quickly crawled away. He’s pretty quick and we’re hoping that he’ll give Judah a few tips or pointers on crawling – the proper way! But If you look at Judah’s face, he doesn’t really look that impressed, does he? He looks like he’s saying, “Show off!

DSC_0006

I figured that I’d take the opportunity to take a picture of Judah sitting, cause I had mentioned that I wanted to get a picture of him sitting to show you all. He’s sitting…..I can’t believe how fast the time is flying. Next thing I know, he’ll be in Kindergarten and then off to college. OH MAN!

DSC_0010

Well, not to be outdone….Jack had to show us all that he was almost ready to stand. “See me balancing! All I have to do is push up, and VOILA! I’m standing!

DSC_0012

Not only that…..Here’s my Blue Steel! You can’t do that one, Judah, can you? Just try to top that!!!

DSC_0013

The boys were headed right into a smackdown and so I distracted them with some food….

DSC_0021

Hey Jack, man! You dropped some of those potato puffs on your shirt! It’s a bit embarrassing looking, but mostly I just wanna know if you’re gonna eat that. I’ll help ya out, if you’re not???

DSC_0022

Hey! Lady, where did those treats go? We’re still hungry, eh?

DSC_0023

Hey Judah! Slow down, don’t cram those in so fast! I wanted some!

DSC_0029

Hey Lady! Are you still taking pictures of us? Haven’t you got enough already? Geesh!

Highlighting the Highlights

So I turned 35 a few days ago and while it wasn’t the best birthday that I’ve had, I suppose that it could have been worse. As it turns out……it is what it is and there is nothing that I can do to change or to alter it and so here are the highlights of it all….

This is a picture of me bright and early on my 35th birthday. This is the “raw” me. No make up, no hair (ha) and wearing a pretty bland, white tank and jeans.

As much as this is not my FAVORITE picture of me….I suppose that it could be a lot worse and I’m not entirely disappointed in how 35 looks on me. Eh?

Early Morning 35

Here is the Birthday Banana that the girls made for me. Very creative if you ask me……

Birthday Banana

Then there was the crazy, no good, horrible, terrible day that happened. In the evening, my momma came over and took the kids and I down to Derby Reach. We picked up some sushi and ate at a picnic table as the evening turned to night. It was a break from the craziness of the day and a treat. Jon and I used to go for a weekly sushi date before Angelica was diagnosed and we haven’t gone since. Thank, Momma! I love you. You have and continue to be such a help and encouragement to me.

Momma took Siah for a sleepover on Saturday night and after we woke up on Sunday morning we went for breakfast at Ricky’s Restaurant. This is another favorite thing of mine to do. I love breakfast…..any time of the day. Eggs and Hashbrowns and bacon or sausage………MMMMMMmmmmm! Debbie, Denver and Jack joined us. In all the insanity of this whole crazy journey, it’s nice to do something ordinary.

The kids and I came home and spent the rest of Sunday as just a quiet at home day. I figured that if I was going to get all the kids down to bed on my own that I’d need to start early. We had a few too many leftover’s in the fridge and so rather than spending time cooking, I re-heated and everyone got to choose a little bit of this and a little bit of that. My mom came over just as things were warming and she stayed for dinner. I was able to get the dishes cleaned and the kids in jammies while she held Judah. So SO nice.

Just as I was shooshing the kids upstairs to read before I turned out their lights, my sister Debbie came rushing into my house carrying a cake stand…….with a cake. SURPRISE!

They sang happy birthday to me….

Singing Happy Birthday

Even Judah joined in with a few squeeks and squawks…..

Nana & Judah

And we even managed to get Jon in on the action through Skype. (Geli was sleeping thanks to some meds.)

Virtual Attendance

After my post mentioned emotional eating, I’ve made a few changes for myself, my health and my diet; and the cake Debbie brought over was sooooo appreciated.

Birthday Cake

Isn’t that amazing? It’s watermelon on the bottom two layers, and a layer of canteloupe and a layer of pineapple. With thin layers of strawberries and banana’s in between. The sauce is a soy yogurt blended with strawberries, and those are grapes for fancy candles…..

Debbie is amazing.

It was even more delicious than it looks and was a great way to end off the day after my 35th birthday.

What was even better, was that I managed to get all the kids asleep early and was in bed, myself, by 8:30pm. Sleep is an amazing thing.

So, it wasn’t all bad……more like difficult or tough or just not what I was expecting or had hoped for.

But, we carry on.

That’s How Strong My Love Is

This was an e-mail sent from my sister Debbie to Angelica. I’ve asked both of them for permission to share it with you.

So, I had an appointment to get a perm this weekend. I’ve always wanted some wave in my straw-like, straight hair, so I thought it might be a fun thing to do for the summer. I didn’t realize Geli’s hair loss was coming on this soon.

DSC00509

When Geli first was going thru this whole cancer process, I told my husband that I would want to shave my head when the time came for Geli to do it. In my mind, I can’t imagine having to go thru everything that she is going thru and not even having a choice about it. At least I could choose to loose my hair. But when the time came, I was a lot more nervous than I expected. Would those around me still think I was beautiful, would my husband still want to hold me, would my infant son still recognize me…I know how I look in a swim cap and SEXY definitely comes to mind. (NOT!) But, it is just hair. And…I have the choice.

My beautiful niece, you did not choose this path, but you are weathering it beautifully in your own unique way. Geli, you have always been a “walk to the beat of your own drum” kind of girl. You makes crazy cool fashion choices, and you aren’t swayed too much by the hype of most teens today.

DSC00517

As an adult, with all my grown up-ness,reasoning and “maturity”, I still have fears or concerns. I can’t imagine what it would be like to experience this as a teen. But again, it’s just hair. And…I have the choice, you didn’t.

Geli, when you were a baby, I taught you to scream for joy when you saw someone you loved (much to the delight of your mom). Sweetheart, now you teach me to scream out for those I love. Whether it’s screaming out prayers of injustice or encouragement, or screaming out fears or shrieks of joy. I guess i want you to know that in the same moments we can scream out for joy, we can be screaming out for fear or pain as well. And that’s OK.

DSC00521

Geli, I want to walk this road with you as much as I can. But when it comes down to it, this is your journey. We stand along the way with you cheering you on. Sometimes we walk a bit with you, sometimes someone like your mom or dad carries you, and sometimes you are on your own. But in this crazy act, we join you.

I guess, Geli, by supporting you this way,I want to let you know that you are loved, beautiful, gorgeous, talented, and that you are brave and valiant. And in all your strength, it’s OK sometimes to feel nervous or some fear. Because we make the choice not to live in that fear. And we know that perfect love cast out all fear, and Geli you are surround by “perfect love”…and a whole lot of our love too!

DSC00525

Needless to say, I called the salon to cancel the perm. 🙂

peace.
love.
shalom.

That’s How Strong My Love Is

If I was the sun way up there
I’d go with love most everywhere
I’ll be the moon when the sun goes down
Just to let you know that I’m still around

That’s how strong my love is, oh
That’s how strong my love is,
That’s how strong my love is, baby, baby,
That’s how strong my love is.

I’ll be the weeping willow drowning in my tears
You can go swimming when you’re here
I’ll be the rainbow when the sun is gone
Wrap you in my colors and keep you warm

That’s how strong my love is, darling,
That’s how strong my love is, baby,
That’s how strong my love is, oooh,
That’s how strong my love is.

I’ll be the ocean so deep and wide
I’ll get out the tears whenever you cry,
I’ll be the breeze after the storm is gone
To dry your eyes and love you warm

That’s how strong my love is, baby,
That’s how strong my love is,
That’s how strong my love is, darling,
That’s how strong my love is,

That’s how strong my love is, so deep in,
Well, that’s how strong my love is
So much love, yes so much love, oohh,
Yes so much love, yes so much love,
Anything that I can do, I’ll be good for you,
Any kind of love you want, I’ll be with you….
