Today was a quieter day. Siah had a “share the joy” project for @yorksoncreekwolves school and decided to put a rainbow of hearts in our upstairs window. A sweet neighbour @kaithargreaves spread some joy by dropping off these gorgeous African Violets and the kitties did what they do best. While this whole isolation situation is not ideal, there are SO many good things that are coming out of it. Jude has been so keen on connecting through technology to his school, teacher and work. He’s excited about the class chat tomorrow and has been actually doing assignments. The “journals” are voice to text, complete with punctuation – hence the excellent spelling. But he’s done so much more and is LOVING it. I could cry because this is more work than he’s done in SO long. He is missing his friends and the routine of school but he has so much more emotional and mental energy available from being home and with me. His EA connected with him for over half an hour today and they made a plan to connect later this week. It’s been a very busy day but also a very good one. #sharethejoy2020 #judahzane

Well, it’s been a day and I’m already in bed. Was gardening this morning when this giant bumblebee zoomed in and seemed to be struggling to fly. So proud of Jude for being brave enough to hold him. Jude then helped dad build a retaining wall. After that, we logged into school for the first time and realized that Siah loves his Math Program and that it’s pretty awesome to connect with friends and teachers. At this point, the cst and dog and I are all tucked in for the evening. We just got the kids to sleep. It’s hard to be motivated to stick to a schedule when everything feels so crazy. And some days I want them in bed at 7pm because I’m desperate for the break and some days I just have no energy to fight the bedtime war. Tomorrow, Jude’s school is doing the teacher drive by parade and I’m DREADING it. I’ve been ignoring it and then for a brief moment this afternoon I was SO excited to see a few people and then it dawned on me that the excitement of it would most likely give way to the grief of all of the loss. I started to realize and think through all the loss of connections…..not only for my sweet boy but for me. Some of these people have been LIFELINES for me in ways they probably can’t ever imagine. The intensity of the feelings is hitting me hard tonight and I almost wish I hadn’t said anything to Jude because I know that he’ll also be processing the joy of seeing loved ones and the grief as he processes what he’s lost and is losing. It’s necessary but so hard. I foresee a beautifully difficult day tomorrow as we recognize and acknowledge love, loss and life; and that joy and sadness can be inexplicably intertwined and held at the same time. #itsokaytocry #covid19 #teacherparade #lovelossandlife #physicaldistancing #sadnessandjoy #sharethejoy2020
