United Together – Day 4 Summary

It was a Sunday and normally on Sunday’s we are up and moving at the crack of dawn or depending on the time of the year….even before then. But yesterday, we slept in.

It didn’t help that we stayed up too late the night before watching a movie; but, it was a nice evening for Gelica, Jon and I.

We finally did get up and moving and while Geli ate some breakfast we watched another movie. Sometimes you just gotta do something to pass the time. And then at other times….you blink and you’ve lost the past 4 hours and it felt like 15 minutes.

Here is a picture of Angelica’s Room.

Geli's Room

It’s tiny and the cot (for me to sleep on) doesn’t help with the squishy feeling). What you can’t see from this position is that there is a sink directly to the left straight ahead of my cot and a TV/DVD player hung up on the wall above the sink.

Nana Karen brought Xandra and Siah in for Father’s Day and it was nice to see them. Siah’s been aware of the change of routine and not having Mommy, Daddy or Geli around. He was very happy to see Geli today.

Cuddles from a little brother

Angelica was allowed to be unhooked from her IV pole for 2 hours today and actually has a standing order for 2 hours a day unhooked….WooHoo! We decided to get off our ward and head on out exploring.

Headed Out Exploring

Well, We made it to the Lobby of the Hospital where we found the gift shop and Siah found a tiny toy station……. So we waited for him for a bit…..

The Lobby is so Exciting

It was SOOOOOO Exciting….NOT!

But, that is life with a little brother…..they like to play and explore and RUN REALLY FAST!!!!! Even in Hospital Hallway’s when Mommy and Daddy are yelling as quietly as possible for him to SLOW DOWN!!!!!

Running Fast

We made it over to the Starbucks and along the travels we managed to scratch Angelica’s left foot and run over the two smallest toes on her right foot. Seeing as her platelets were so low….that scored us a free bag of platelets once we made it back to the ward.

But, before our 2 hours of free, untethered time was up we made it down to the cafeteria for some fries and a Cheeseburger…..On our way back up to the room, we met up with Aunty Sherry. She popped by for a visit before she had to be at work at the hospital down the road….

Visit with Aunty Sherry

After Aunty Sherri left Mommy and Daddy watched Siah in the playroom and Gelica and Xandra stayed in the room and played on the computer…..

Computer Time

And Colored…….

Coloring

Geli looks so pretty doesn’t she?

Later in the Afternoon, Nana Cully came by with Geli’s Grade 7 Grad Dress. They are working on the last minute fittings…..it’s pretty cute isn’t it? Geli’s pretty excited.

Geli's Dress

She rested for about an hour before the time of the day that she had been looking forward to all day long…………Her school friends came to visit…but I think I’ll post about that adventure separately….

We’re all doing well. I’m feeling huge and although I’m okay with our little man staying inside a it longer….I’m also aware that every day we pass means that he gets a little bit bigger and if I’m being totally honest….I’m a little concerned about popping out a 10 pound baby. But……ya gotta do what ya gotta do, right?

We’re up and at ’em this morning (Monday morning) and we’ve (Me and Geli) already brushed our teeth and eaten some cereal. Fruit Loops for Geli and I had a bowl of Frosted Flakes – definitely the breakfast of champions…I might add some strawberries just to round it all out health wise, eh?

Jon stayed over night at the Easter Seals house which is about 3 blocks away. He was finding the teeny, tiny scrawny, short couch in the playroom to be a bit uncomfortable. Hopefully, he got a god sleep last night….it’s just 9am here and we haven’t heard from him yet.

Alright, gotta ditch the jammies and possibly put on some make up…..don’t wanna scare the residents away….

Thanks so much for praying for us. Geli is not feeling sick to her stomach or having any pain. So please continue to pray that her body responds to the Chemo by killing the Leukemia Cells and that there would be no negative side effects to go along with it. We believe that God can work miracles….and we believe that we are seeing those miracles every day. Thank you so much.

Also, you could pray for Jon and I that we would get good rest, be at peace always, and have wisdom and grace in dealing with every facet of this situation. And for the other kids and our family and friends that are helping us out that everyone would also be at peace and that everything would work together and that no one would feel tired or stressed or worn out or nervous or any of those other things that a situation like this could possibly carry with it….

Geli loves reading the comments from you all. It’s so nice to hear who’s praying for us and to hear how Geli’s Story has spread around around the world and is uniting so many people together in faith and hope…….

We love you all.

  1. Just want to let you know you’re in our thoughts and prayers, thank you so much for sharing with all of us in this very difficult time, you will never know how you encourage and strengthen others……and Geli, i can’t believe how much you’ve grown up, you’re beautiful and I hope you really enjoy your grade 7 grad in that adorable dress:) And Patti….belly shot NOW! I”m probably bigger than you already and I’m only 20weeks:)

  2. “I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” This is a favorite verse of mine….God knows all about what we are going through and promises never to leave us or forsake us. He promises that ALL things will work together for good. May His peace be with you and your entire family today. I am praying for a speedy recovery and no side effects from the treatment. God bless your day.

  3. Hey Patti and her gorgeous family!

I’ve been away for a few days and out of internetness (shock and horror) and am only now catching up on all your posts.

As always your positivity and strength is amazing. You tell Geli is is an incredible young lady! Cancer came seem like an overwhelming thing to be dealing with but I truly believe that positivity and faith can beat those nasty little multiplying cells so hang in there.

And Patti – you are a warrior, even if that baby is 10lbs I don’t doubt for a second you’ll be amazing!

Sending you all my best health and strength vibes.

    Emily xoxo

You know what Uganda is seriously way way too far away from you, your dad often tells me that too;-) Hmmm… but missing you guys these days wishing I could join you on that spa day, love those spa days!! Hey your mums toes look pretty sporty in her pic… I think I am going to get a mani and pedi and pretend we are doing it together, so let me know when you are doing yours ok hee…hee… Now all this talk of your mum and dad going to Starbucks, is starting to make me jealous, we dont have one here and I am a starbucks freak… you better tell them next time they should have one for me too…. 8. Still keeping you guys in my prayers. I am happy thinks are going as well as can be given the situation. God is Good. And I don’t know you Angelica but that dress is gorgeous! I just love it.

  9. Hi Angelica,

Looks like you had a great day with your family yesterday. So glad to see you smiling! You as so blessed with so many amazing people around you πŸ™‚

I’ll tell you something that was special to me this week. My cat passed away last week and so many people have told me, “it’s just a cat, get over it” (not in those words exactly, but a variation of them). I had him for 9 years though and he was one of my babies.

Needless to say I was devistated, but seeing how brave you’re being with everything you’re going through has inspired me to find the courage within myself to carry on. So bless you for being such an inspriation and thank you for helping me find my own strength.

I continue to keep you in my prayers and trust that this will all be but a “blip” on the radar of your life, but hopefully it will be a time when you felt closer to God than ever before and remember, sort of like the Footprints in the Sand poem, “that was when he carried you”.

    Be blessed!
    Shala

  10. Hey guys!
Still praying and so happy to see such great pictures of you all! Gelli, it must feel so nice to not be attached to equipment for at least two hrs a day! I became addicted to Starbucks when we lived at Children’s Hospital, really yummy frappucinos! Have you checked out the Tim Hortons in the Womens part of the Hospital yet? Is there anything you guys would like to have to help kill the time? πŸ™‚ You can only watch so many movies haha!
SOOOO your Auntie Michelle said you would like to read stories about your parents. Hmmmmmmmm… One of the things I remember most about your mom was her BIG voice, which she was very proud of πŸ™‚ and being able to sing at the top of her lungs and her laughter. Those are the two things I remember most about your mom. We would get into hysterical fits of laughter over the silliest things, but hey! We were teenagers! We were in a few musicals together which was really fun. Now your dad I met when I was 13.
He was in a lot of church musicals as well and since we were both tall scrawny redheads, it seemed like we always got paired together. The video I have is of a bunch of us, your Uncle David who wore some incredibly HUGE glasses at that time, Rachel Sledding, Andrea Billows, myself, your dad and a bunch of other friends all dressed in nasty flourescent colored t-shirts trying to dance to a bunch of songs and it is truly hilarious to watch! We all look so different, a whole lot skinnier that is πŸ™‚
By the way, I love your dress and you look just beautiful in it! Hold your head high and have an amazing time at your grad! I am so glad you get to go to your grad! That is so exciting! And you get to have the summer to just rest and work on getting better! We are scheduled to be in Childrens August 11th, for the day, but you will be long gone by then I am sure!
I am looking forward to hearing about how awesome your grad was, but I will also keep praying for you for each minute of each day. πŸ™‚
    Lots of Luv!
    Niki

  12. Hi, I am one of the many people praying for you! I have never met you but I went to youth group & high school with your Uncle Denver. What a blessing to be be loved by so many, not to mention your heavenly Father who will be by your side every step of the way! Be blessed Angelica & know that there are many pepople all over standing with you & your family!

  14. Gel,
It was really good to see you on Saturday. I want you to know that I am praying for you multiple times a day ( pretty much every time you pop into my head). Looks like your new room is a little more spacious. that must be on the top side of alright ! I was glad to hear that you’ll be able to get parole for your grad, that’s really cool. If I don’t talk to you before then have an amazing time, you deserve it! Love you lots ! ! Keep up the good work !

  15. Geli, you look great in pink. Merrilyn has done a great job and is loving it – I saw the beginnings of it a few weeks back.

Big hugs and prayers headed your way today! First day of summer. NOT. But in the scheme of life, the sun is already shining in you and your family.

  16. Bonjour Gelica, Je suis très heureuse de voir que tu te sens mieux. Tu es courageuse avec tout ce qui se passe autour de toi, et si belle, surtout dans ta robe rose & noire!!! You are very much missed….the classroom is just not the same without you. Your classmates and I are sending positive vibes your way. I know you are receiving them because you look better and better in every picture. Hope to see you at the Farewell. Tomorrow is a new day and the future is bright. God bless you and your beautiful family. Mme Inouye xo

  17. Geli, W.O.W. have you grown since Fathers Day (ha,ha)You do a lot for that adorable dress–beautiful!!With the little “‘PINKI”I meant to add “A happy heart is good medicine and a cheerful mind works healing” Amp.version of Prov.17:22 hope it gives you some laughs. Tons of love and prayers’ Grandpa and Grandma R.

  18. Hi Patti,
Just wanted to tell you how much I love you so much. I am so honoured to say that I know you guys. The way you have shared your hearts during this crazy journey, has been such an inspiration. Please let us know what we can do to help. Let your mom know if she needs a break or help with the other kids to let us know, we are just up the road.
Geli I can’t wait to hang out with you at the pool again soon. You are incrediblely strong amazing young lady!! I know you probably don’t think of yourself as one but you are truly my HERO!!!
    Love you all so much!
    Rachel

  19. Loving the pink & black dress, great choice Angelia! Your mom is right, you look very pretty in all these pictures πŸ™‚
Praying for you like crazy, thinking about you often.
I have a little card at my desk… every time I look over at it I am reminded to pray for you and wanted to share it with you. Fitting since it’s a ‘pass it on’ card πŸ™‚

    Trust – in HIS timing
    Rely – on HIS promises
    Wait – for HIS answers
    Believe – in HIS miracles
    Rejoice – in HIS goodness
    Relax – in HIS presence

“Come near to God and he will come near to you.”
    ~James 4:8

  20. When I talked to her, Merrilyn said the dress was pink and black and I tried to visualise it. I didn’t do it justice. Way to go girl you are going to look so awesome in that dress. I just bought you a wig to match but sorry it won’t get there tomorrow. Never mind you can have some fun with it when the parcel arrives. Enjoy your special day, you deserve it. In NZ they give kids on the oncology ward a bead for every thing they have to endure. As you know some of them get a lot of beads. Platelets – 1 bead, injection 1 bead, VAD 1 bead etc. They string these together on a necklace or bracelets. I reckon it is a good idea.
Love to you all. Looking forward to this baby ! It was supposed to be on the 21st !!!
